Dooley & Rostron
King St West – Man CC - Retail
01
Background
Having taken over the prestigious Manchester based business from Frank Rostron in the early 2000s, Adam Dooley continued to run the shop on Princess Street with great success, modernising the brand and retaining tradition with correct proportion. Having operated for some time with the limitations of the old factory rooms above the historic shop, the time came to improve working conditions and the size of the atelier. A suitable location was found in the heart of Spinningfields in what was previously a large salon over two floors.
02
Brief
The client's property was an old building with empty basement requiring a factory space, segregated staff and clientele facilities, and a ground floor retail space that incorporated a coffee outlet.

Emphases on design were centred around a 'traditional tailors feel' with a contemporary twist.
03
Role
We designed and implemented a construction scheme to put in place a tanked conversion of the basement. This created a functional space to incorporate cutting rooms, a large factory floor, full employee welfare facilities, segregated office area and a client fitting area with patron WC.

The ground floor was converted for use as a retail outlet with a sympathetic mix of bespoke and traditional display and point of sale.
A proportion of the inner shop floor was staged with a small kitchen and coffee bar with a traditional barrista feel. This outlet now known as Factory Coffee, has since won several awards.
